Welcome to my website. Today we will be exploring how to make our browser even more secure. By default our browsers are quite good for security, but we can make that much better with a certain few extra things. Let's have a look.

 

How to make your browser more secure

 

We are going to be looking at plugins and good tools today. One outstandingly good plugin is called HTTPS Everywhere. What this does is make our browser connect to the HTTPS version of a website, which is encrypted. This means that spies can't see what we're doing.

 

For the best internet security we should use other plugins too. A good one, one of my favourite, is one which blocks adverts. The reason for this is that advertisers love to follow us around the internet, seeing what we are doing and invading all kinds of privacy. I recommend checking out Adblock Plus, which does everything automatically and is known as one of the best, if not, the best advert blocker for internet browsing.

 

We’re not done yet, for yet more security, we want to stop every script from running. If even 1% of scripts could cause us huge security problems, we should block every single one and then decide which ones to allow. If you don’t know the website or website the script is coming from, simply leave it unable to run. If you trust the site, you can let it run. If you are forgetful of passwords, or just have too many to even keep track of, you need something like LastPass. This has browser plugins and also a Windows application. It remembers your passwords, encrypts them, saves them on your LastPass account, and you can get them back from anywhere you may find yourself. Well, as long as you have an internet connection and a device able of such things.

There are plugins for Chrome, Firefox and probably more browsers and platforms.

 

Another good tool, although not a browser extension, is LongURL. What this does is expand shortened links, so you can see where they actually go. Some bad people love hiding where links go, saying it goes to a trustworthy website, but really it goes to a nightmarish malware-riddled hell land. You probably want to stay away from those kind of places, they don’t sound nice.
